A main reason to go on vacation is to relax and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones or friends. A vacation should be fun and a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The West Cape May Business Association would like to suggest a few ideas to make your stay on Cape Island a memorable one. The following itinerary might help you plan a few activities before you arrive. This website also has several pages of events, things to do and vacation tips.
1st Day
Most people arrive between 12 noon and 2 pm, most check-ins are in this time frame. A great place for lunch is the Bella Vida Garden Cafe in the heart of the historic district in West Cape May or for something a little different we might suggest The Butterfly Tea Room, a place known for affordable elegance away from the crowds.
After you are settled in your accommodations the self guided walking tour of the historic district of West Cape May is a good way to spend the afternoon. If you are staying at one of the bed and breakfast inns afternoon tea may be offered and this is a good time to meet your fellow guests and maybe make some new friends.
2nd Day
Let the adventure begin, you’re on island time now and there’s no hurry but there is plenty to do. If you get up early a bike ride through town (before the crowds begin to arrive) is fun and gives you a chance to explore the historic streets of West Cape May and Cape May.
A late morning or early afternoon Trolley Tour is a great way to become familiar with some Cape May landmarks and places of historic interest. When you return visit some of the many antique shops found in West Cape May or spend the afternoon swimming and sunning on the beach.
Then before diner relax and enjoy a massage at The Well Center for Massage or maybe get in a workout at the Cape Fitness, both centrally located in West Cape May.
3rd Day
Pack a lunch and enjoy a Cape Island cycling adventure. The 10 to 12 mile loop begins in West Cape May to Cape May Point. The next destination would be the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area about two miles to the north and then two miles west. This very scenic route crosses over open marsh, fields of wildflowers then through the Wild Life Management Area which has a coastal dune forest, a forest of holly, red cedar and beach plum. There are also several hundred acres of wooded upland all providing habitat for migratory songbirds, raptors and butterflies. A leisurely bicycling tour of the outskirts of West Cape May can take up most of the day and is an experience you will want to do again.
4th Day
Early morning walks on the beach…..early morning walks through Cape May Meadows… Auto Walking Tour of Cape May…a Romantic Evening Carriage ride…Sunset Beach…swimming and relaxing on the beach… …these are just a few of our favorite things to do.
5th Day
While staying in West Cape May you will want to spend a day shopping in the many interesting shops, boutiques and galleries. The shopping district has several antique and gift shops that will satisfy the most insatiable shopper. Browse our outlet stores for some real bargains and stop in our many unique home furnishing and décor shops for something special to remember your vacation.
6th Day
Plan a day trip to the Cape May Zoo and/or Cold Springs.
7th day
Don’t be sad you’ve made memories and you’ll be coming back. But the adventure is not over on your way home stop in at Leaming’s Run Gardens, the walk through takes an hour or two with several beautiful and even spectacular views of their many garden settings. Each visit is unique with changing vistas throughout the season (May through October).
